Pain or Pleasure?

All things in life are either about pain or pleasure. ~ Leon Fontaine

Do you find that as life happens round about you, the decisions you make cause you to choose between pain or pleasure? I find that very true in my life.

Do I want to exercise? Hmmm - that would be painful (to give up that much time in my day; to have aching muscles; to get off the couch… ;) )
Enforcing chores with the kids - pain or pleasure? How about bedtime??
Coaching my oldest daughter in her finances (when she’s pretty sure she’s got life under control) - pain or pleasure?
Addressing that issue with my husband concerning how his actions make me feel - pain or pleasure? What do I choose?

We tend to want to avoid pain and choose pleasure. It makes life so much more enjoyable. Or does it? Are we achieving the dreams and desires within us as we only choose pleasure?

Anything great in life is accomplished with discipline and hard work. How do you push past the selfish desire of taking the easy path and instead, choose the pain - and the reward of achieved goals?

Create a vision. Are you able to see the pleasure of accomplishing the task? As you create a vision for yourself where you can see that decision as completed and yielding the results you desire you can learn to embrace the pain to achieve what you long for.

So when there is a choice to make - mix pleasure into the pain you must walk through to reach your goal.

Vision will see you through!!

P.S. - I’m off to exercise. What pain will you embrace to reach your goals?

  • What do you want others to remember you for? When you tap into the legacy you want to leave you are getting to the heart of what you were created to do. Motivation & Good Choices

    September 17th, 2009 · No Comments

    Question of the day:

How do you stay motivated when it seems like most of the decisions you make are wrong?

What a great question - and so true! It is almost impossible to keep your motivation when you are working on the wrong project. Let’s talk about making the right decisions and choices so your work will be inspiring and productive.

In order to make good choices there are several key things you must know:

      1. Know your goals. When you are working on something that you are passionate about your motivation flows from within. You are energized just thinking about your work. There are, of course, times of immense enthusiasm and then there are times that you must work on building your enthusiasm. You do this by reviewing your goals. When you wake up in the morning, do you have that feeling of excitement and anticipation to get to work? Find your passion and find your motivation.

      2. Productive return. Do you know what task you must complete to give you your greatest return? Always work on the most important tasks. Delegate the rest.
      3. Time Management. Once you have established the best tasks to work on then you must manage your time well. Set a target for the amount of time you will work on each project. Have a good outline of the steps it will take to complete each project. Follow the steps to keep you on track. Discover the joy of accomplishment as you watch the tasks gradually disappearing from your “To Do” list.

Follow these steps for making good decisions about the tasks you need to complete and enjoy the rewards and the motivation.

    Motivating Gifts

    August 27th, 2009 · No Comments

Do gifts motivate you? What about a friend, do friends motivate you? How are a friend and a gift like great motivators?

Think back to a time when you received a special gift. For women that may even have been an expensive bottle of perfume. How did that gift make you feel?
    crystalwood-naturals-courtesy-of-flickr

I read a proverb today that compares the happiness you feel when receiving a gift to the joy you receive from a friend:

“Oil and perfume rejoice the heart; so does the sweetness of a friend’s counsel that comes from the heart.”

Do you have a friend who inspires you to greatness? Everyone needs a friend who will motivate us, encourage us and give us the boost we need to persevere!

When I have spent some time talking with a friend with vision and who has given me good counsel I am motivated to do whatever it is I need to do. I am inspired and energized to press on. Her counsel to me is like receiving a gift - a sweet fragrance in my life.

As I read the above proverb I realized that the counsel of a friend is probably my greatest motivation!

    Overwhelmed?

    August 5th, 2009 · No Comments

Do you find that too many things are demanding your time? As a Mom you have many expectations to fulfill; add working from home to that already full plate and it is easy to feel overwhelmed with all the needs you must meet.

Today, I’d like to encourage you not to let life overwhelm you. “How?” you ask?

    Keep your perspective by:

  • remembering why you are doing what you do,
  • reviewing your goals,
  • taking some time to refresh yourself,
  • be realistic about what you can accomplish in a day,
  • always work on your top priorities before anything else - this way you will end each day with having worked on the most important tasks, even though only a little bit of work may have been accomplished!
  • And remember to enjoy this moment - it’s the only one you have been guaranteed!

    Confidence! It’s yours today!

    August 1st, 2009 · 2 Comments

sps-e4_3482I’ve just come through a week of learning a lot about myself! Sometimes that is frightening, sometimes it’s surprising. Either way, as I am enlightened I have a desire to improve who I am and therefore need to embrace the fear that comes with what I learn!

This past week my family and I spent the week at a family retreat. I did not know anyone in a crowd of approximately 100 people. My desire was to get to know new people and to build relationships with them.

At one time in my life I would have had a lot of confidence going into a situation like this but I was surprised how much I feared putting myself out there among the people now. I had lost my confidence! I struggled with fear of being rejected, not measuring up to their intelligence, not being an interesting person, and many more emotions.

The first few days were difficult. I would introduce myself and try to make conversation but it seemed to be going nowhere. I was not about to give up. The third day of the retreat I forced myself to go sit at a table filled with ladies. Realizing there would be no room at the table made me hesitate but I pushed through the thoughts that were reasoning with me that I would have to stand beside the table to visit with them which would make it extremely awkward!!

I persisted and as a result I met half a dozen wonderful ladies whom I got to know very well throughout the rest of the week. I was so glad I had reached deep into myself to find the courage to continue on even when I wasn’t seeing the results I had hoped for. By not giving up I developed many precious friendships.

As I reflected on my lack of confidence I realized that having been a stay-at-home Mom for 20 years had changed me in more ways than I realized. I had become comfortable interacting with children as I poured my life into my precious kids but I had also lost some of the ability that had given me the courage to break into any circle.

I want to encourage all stay-at-home Moms today to believe in the person you have become.

      1. You are making a tremendous difference in the world by giving your children a home of security and stability. Never underestimate what you are doing to improve the world.

      2. You are an interesting person who can contribute a lot of wisdom into conversations. Your life is not wasting away as you are putting time into your family. Rather, you are becoming a person who has learned to run an organization that rivals any CEO’s job. You have adapted to managing the most noble profession: raising the leaders of tomorrow!

May these two thoughts encourage you to have confidence in who you are and what you have to offer to any relationship. Believe the best about yourself and be confident!

    Create a Great Day!
